If you would like to volunteer, but aren't sure where to start visit the Questions to Ask page to help find the best volunteer opportunity that's right for you.

Once you've determined the type of volunteer work you are interested in, there are a number of ways to find volunteer postings in the Edmonton and area.

Alberta's YOUTH VOLUNTEER!
This online volunteer hub is designed specifically for youth. Search for opportunities from Edmonton and area by looking under 'north' and then 'Edmonton and area' for the information pertaining to the Edmonton region.

Community Newspapers
A wealth of volunteer opportunities can be found in free, neighbourhood publications such as the Edmonton Examiner, Vue Weekly and SEE Magazine. Many of these publications feature volunteer postings which can be found in the back pages of the classified section or throughout the paper. Community newsletters and flyers may also have information about volunteer opportunities available near your home.

Craigslist
Featuring online classfied advertisements, visitors can browse for both local and abroad volunteer opportunities. Visit the volunteer link found under "Community".

Edmonton Journal Engage Page
To view volunteer opportunities, the Engage page is availabe every second Sunday in the Edmonton Journal or you can visit their website. This page is dedicated to covering issues and topics related to Alberta's nonprofit/voluntary sector.

Facebook
This popular social networking site is a great place to search for volunteer opportunities in your area and beyond. To access the website, you must have an account set up. Visit the Marketplace section to click on "Jobs" and type in key words like "volunteer" to view available volunteer opportunities.

Go Volunteer
An online comprehensive database that connects people to volunteer opportunities. Visitors can search according to activity, organization and location.

Idealist
Idealist is a project of Action Without Borders, a nonprofit organization founded in 1995. The website is an interactive resource that allows people to exchange resources, ideas  locate opportunities and supporters, and take steps toward building a world where all people can lead free and dignified lives. You can find volunteer opportunities in your area by clicking on "volunteer opportunities" and searching by location, keyword and date.

Jobshark
You can find volunteer opportunities by searching location and type of opportunity. For those unsure of where to volunteer, check out the list of questions featured near the bottom of the page to help narrow down your search.

Kijiji
Kijiji is a group of free, local, community classifieds websites that provide people living in the same city the opportunity to meet, trade and share ideas. View the latest volunteer opportunities in the volunteer section which can be found under "community". A handy search bar is available in the top righ-hand corner of the page to help find a specific volunteer opportunity.

The Support Network
Talk to an Information and Referral specialist to receive information about organizations, matching the cause or issue that matters to you or the population you want to serve. They are available 24 hours-a-day by simply dialing 211 in Edmonton or 482-INFO (4636) from outside Edmonton.

University of Alberta Students' Union
Featuring both Student's Union and community volunteer positions, visitors can browse the listed postings using a variety of search options like seasonal or ongoing opportunities.  

VolWeb

If you like to volunteer for short-term events like festivals and fundraisers, VolWeb is the perfect website for you! Search for volunteer opportunities by location, date and event name. Each event posting has a brief description,lists the kinds of positions available, requirements and a deadline to sign up. Please note that this website has been focused on events in British Columbia up to this point. However, the site has recently been opened up to those in other provinces so may not be well populated with local opportunities yet but check back from time to time in the coming weeks for opportunities in the Edmonton area.
